The impact of climate change on
agriculture
Agriculture, is the
world's major source of food, fiber, forage, medicine and so on, which are
necessary to human life to sustain, as well as being the world's most important
issue in terms economic growth and lobar opportunity. It is utterly depends on
climate and weather. Agriculture being so vulnerable to the climate change, it
is therefore highly impacted by the short-term variability of the weather and
long-term change of the climate. In the end of the 19 century with the
beginning of 20th as well as this modern century, climate change had
increasingly become the world's important agenda, in terms global warming
attributed to unimpeded greenhouse gases, such Carbon-dioxide, (CO2 ),
Methane, (CH4), as well as acid form gaseous compounds, such
Sulfuric and Nitric acid and so on. They collectively contribute, rising of
temperature, falling acidic rains, heightening the sea level, and also leading
heavy rainfalls.
Environment, as it is bieng the sum total suroundings of all living things including any natural forces or other living things which provide development and growth of the environment and as well as degradation and damage of the environment is either hastily or gradually threatened by entire above
mentioned climatic elements. Subjecting these climatic aspects to agriculture
as being a significant and most susceptible part of environment lead, economic
devastation, diminution of food, fiber and forage production which will
ultimately induce the disturbance of food security entire the world and
eventually the so-called famine in both under-developing and developing
countries. According to (IFPRI), the alter of the climate had effected the
production of most consumable crops such as maize, rice, wheat and so on in
most of the regions in the world. The gradual raising of temperature as well as
undesirable rainfall, which became so favorable to the weeds, pests, and
insects, which all reduce the crop yield. This therefore induced applying broad
spectra pesticides, herbicides, as well as using many toxic chemicals for crop
protection, which on the other hand negatively affected beneficial natural
enemies,-predators, pollinators, and the human well-beings as well as all other
sensitive organism which plays a significant role in the ecosystem. Achieving
low profit with maximum cost is also an additional outcome of the effect,
particularly in tropical and sub-tropical regions. In addition livestock,
wildlife, and marine life had also been effected. According to environmental
studies in University of Toronto and other international institutes the range
lands for posture and feed production for livestock in some North-American
countries had been reported low posture for domestic animals, particularly in
prairie land of Canada.
The recurrent low
rainfall in East Africa, which catalyzed consecutive droughts in the region is
considerable effect of long-term change of the climate.
To sum up, the climate
change had resulted high temperature, undesirable rainfall, either less or
high, acidic rains, which induces some species of plants to get extinct raising
see level due to melting ices and glaciers which pessimistically effects the
marine species.
